Why does anxiety make me feel scared?
This is down to a chemical in your body called adrenaline. Adrenaline is triggered when your body thinks there is danger. It’s what we we call the fight or flight response. It can be very useful if you are being chased by a tiger as it really makes you alert, however sometimes it can misfire. This is when the body really isn’t in any danger at all, but the adrenaline kicks in anyway.
When this happens you can feel scared for no obvious reason at all. It is this reaction that creates a rise in temperature leading to sweating and a faster heart rate.
