Self Awareness

To be self aware is to know your inner self – how your thoughts link to your emotions, how your emotions link to your actions. Mindfulness practices are the way we become more self aware and these are woven all the way through i-gro, to promote resilience, emotional regulation and a calming of thoughts. But did you know that there is some strong science behind the benefits of Mindfulness as well?

According to neuroscience research, mindfulness practices dampen activity in our amygdala and increase the connections between the amygdala and prefrontal cortex. Both of these parts of the brain help us to be less reactive to stressors and to recover better from stress when we experience it. … Long-term, consistent meditation does seem to increase resiliency to stress.

Mindfulness then, helps us to observe our thoughts and emotions without being controlled by them. When we are in the driving seat, we can make better choices and respond rather than react. It helps us to sit with big emotions and learn to let them wash through us and fade away, rather than becoming distressed by them.

When we practice regularly, we become more self aware and more able to manage life’s stresses when they happen. Mindfulness is a key player in growing resilience.
